Dr. Jai Prakash

Assistant Professor

Dr. Jai Prakash is working as Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemistry, NIT Hamirpur. Previously, He worked as ‘INSPIRE Faculty’ in the Department of Chemical Engineering at Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur, India (2016-2018). His Ph. D (2007-2012), carried out at and sponsored by IUAC (formerly, Nuclear Science Center), New Delhi, was awarded by CCS University, Meerut (India). He worked as a postdoctoral researcher at INRS-EMT, Quebec (Canada), Aix-Marseille University (France), Universite Libre de Bruselles (Belgium) and University of the Free State, (South Africa). He has received several National and International scientific awards including DAAD Academic Award (2018), Merit Scholarship Award (ranked# 1) (2017) from Quebec Govt. (Canada), Promising Young Researcher Award (2016) from NRF (South Africa), Prestigious INSPIRE faculty award (2015-2016) and Young Scientist Fast Track (2012) award from DST (India), Guest scientist (2014) from NIMS (Japan), and Senior Research Fellow (2011) from CSIR (India). He has published more than 60 research articles including book/chapters in international scientific peer reviewed journals. Some selected publications in higher impact factor journals are J. Materials Chemistry C (Impact Factor: 7.1), ACS Appl. Materials Interface (Impact Factor: 8.45), Carbon (Impact Factor: 8.82), Inter. Reviews in Phys. Chem. (Impact Factor: 10.71), Energy Storage Materials (Impact Factor : 16.23), Adv. Energy Materials (Impact Factor: 25.25) have gained attention worldwide. His major research fields are functional nanomaterials, surface science, ion beam modifications of nanomaterials and Chemistry of materials. His highly interdisciplinary research includes synthesis/characterizations of plasmonic, polymers, metal-oxides semiconductors nanomaterials, their nanocomposites for sensing, optical, photocatalysis, surface enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) related environmental and energy applications.

Research Interests : Functional nanomaterials, Polymers, Plasmonics, metal-oxide semiconductors, Chemistry of Materials, Ion beam modifications of nanomaterials, Chemistry of Materials, Energy and environmental applications
Brief Research Statement : Research experience of more than 6 years at various National and International organizations such as IIT Kanpur, INRS-EMT Montreal Canada, Aix Marseille University France, Universite Libre De Brussels (ULB) Belgium, University of the Free State (UFS) South Africa etc. Recent advances on the improved technological performances and fundamental understanding by coupling different nanostructured materials have encouraged the scientific community toward exploring the potential offered by noble metals and their nanocomposites with various functional nanomaterials in variety of fields. Noble metal nanoparticles (NPs) embedded in dielectric matrix (such as polymer, graphene, metal-oxide materials) can provide synergistically high-performance novel multifunctional materials that find applications in modern nano-biotechnology. My current research interests are primarily focused on the development of unique, high performance nanostructured composite materials (0-3 dimensional) as multifunctional nanomaterials for optical and molecular sensing applications via SERS nanotechnology. Other applications are photocatalysis, antibacterial activities and solar cell device applications. In general, my research activities include synthesis, characterization, and study of various physio-chemical properties of noble metal based nanocomposites for multifunctional applications. Specifically: Nanomaterials and Nanotechnology ------ Nanocomposites for optical, SERS, bio-sensing, antibacterial studies.. Light emitting diodes ------ composites of polymer and rare earth metal doped metal oxide materials. Solar Cell Applications ------- Application of different nanomaterials and perovskite for solar cell applications. Combining the above themes, the aim is to bridge nanomaterials science for interdisciplinary research including clean energy.
