Dr. Rita Maurya
Assistant ProfessorDr. Rita Maurya serving as an Assistant professor from December 2018 onwards at the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, NIT-Hamirpur, India. She earned her doctorate in Materials Science and Engineering from IIT-Kanpur, India, in June 2018 and her postgraduate in Master of Technology from the Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering, NIT-Durgapur, India in 2012. Her undergraduate degree is in Bachelor of Technology (Material Science and Metallurgical Engineering) from the University Institute of Engineering and Technology, Kanpur, India. She pursued her doctoral research in the domain of surface engineering and physical metallurgy of light-metal alloys. Her area of research concentrated on the Processing-Structure-Property correlation of non-ferrous metals and alloys, nanomechanical & nano-tribological properties of materials, oxidation and corrosion protection of materials by surface engineering. She has filed an Indian patent and published more than 18 research articles with 350+ citations (h-index: 10 and i 10 index: 11) in peer-reviewed journals. She is a reviewer of journals from Elsevier, Wiley, Springer, ICE (Institution of Civil Engineers) and Taylor & Francis publishers. Also, she is a life-time member of the Electron Microscopy Society of India (EMSI) and the Indian Institute of Metals (IIM), India and Powder Metallurgical Society of India (PMSI).

Brief Research Statement : | 1. Surface engineering of metals and alloy: The main focus is the corrosion protection of the metals and alloys by protective coatings. It includes chemical conversion coatings, dip coatings and electrodeposition techniques to deposit coatings on the surface of metals and alloys for the application of biomedical, electronic packaging, automobile and space industry. 2. Severe Plastic Deformation: Friction Stir Process (FSP) is utilized to enhance the mechanical and tribological properties of the metallic surface without altering the bulk property, load-bearing capability. Carbonaceous materials, such as carbon nanotubes, graphene and graphite were effectively reinforced with minimal damages into the surface by FSP for the preparation of the engineered surface. 3. Composite materials: Preparation of metal matrix composites (MMCs) and polymer matrix composites (PMCs). Metals and alloys were coated with Ni-ceramic composites using the co-deposition method to form a multi-functional layer. Also, developing the natural fibres/whiskers reinforced PMCs. |
