Dr. Rakesh Sharma
Assistant ProfessorRakesh Sharma received B.Tech. degree in Electronics and Communication engineering from Himachal Pradesh University, Shimla, India, in 2003, and the M.Tech. degree in Electronics and Communication Engineering from National Institute of Technology (NIT) Kurukshetra, India, in 2007. He worked at Wipro Technologies, Bangalore for two years from 2007 to 2009 in device driver development projects. Since 2009, he is with Electronics and Communication Engineering department, NIT Hamirpur working as Assistant Professor. He completed his Ph.D. degree in Analyses of despeckling algorithms for Polarimetric SAR data from the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee, Roorkee, India in 2019. He has international SCI journals and conference papers to his credit in the field of Polarimetric SAR data processing, signal processing and communication systems. He had participated in nine international conferences of repute so far. His current interests include Polarimetric data processing, biomedical image processing, and deep learning algorithms form image processing applications.

Research Experience
Research Interests : | Polarimetric SAR data processing, AI/Neural networks for PolSAR/SAR/Hyper-spectral satellite data processing, Biomedical Image processing. | |
Brief Research Statement : | I am currently working in the field of Polarimetric Synthetic aperture radar (PolSAR) data processing for land cover classification. I have developed novel despeckling algorithms to mitigate the speckle noise effects in PolSAR data for land cover classification applications. The developed algorithms adapt the filtering parameters and performance depending upon SAR, Full-PolSAR, and hybrid-PolSAR data statistics. The proposed algorithms can be applied to a wide range of remote sensing applications like change detection, feature extraction, snow cover monitoring, and extent of disaster assessment through polarimetric SAR images. The part of this research work is published in various journals of repute (IEEE Journal of Selected Topics in Applied Earth Observations and Remote Sensing, IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing Letters, and IET Radar, Sonar & Navigation). Recently, I have extended the research interests to biomedical image processing, and applications of deep learning networks to PolSAR/SAR, and biomedical imaging. I am looking forward to have research collaborations in the field of Polarimetric SAR data processing, AI/Neural networks for PolSAR/SAR/Hyper-spectral satellite data processing, Biomedical Image processing. |
